Watch Dogs 2 is an open world action game with a focus on high technology. It is the second entry in a particularly divisive series, one that has made major changes in its presentation and location.
The smartest thing that Watch Dogs 2 could have done was switch settings. Placing the game squarely in the middle of America's tech industry makes everything feel a little more real, and the sequel shines because of the location. While the characters still aren't all that memorable, the story is better than the standard revenge plot of the first game. The gameplay; however, is where things really took a step up. The game feels less like a watered-down Assassin's Creed clone and more like it's own beast. Watch Dogs 2 checks every box a sequel needs to check and more.
So, what's the downside? There's still all the usual open world problems, of course - the game still has glitches and performance issues, and the online components still aren't as stable as they should be. There's less to do in the world than you'd hope, and the lack of truly compelling characters can make parts of the game tedious. Watch Dogs 2 still feels like it's trying to find its voice, and it is running out of time to do so.
Watch Dogs 2 is a good game. It exceeds its predecessor in every respect, even if it does share some of the same problems. If you're looking for an open world game that embraces technology, this is a great pick. Just don't expect the story to wow you, and don't expect to remember much about the protagonist when you're done.
